We ask you for nothing
DoveBus has no account to create, sets no cookies, uses no analytics and never asks where you are. This page does not stop at saying so: it also lists what leaves your browser anyway when you use the site, because something always does.
In short.
- No account
- There is no sign-up, no login and no email address to leave. There is no profile of you anywhere, because there is no such thing here as a user.
- No cookies
- DoveBus writes no cookies, neither technical nor advertising ones, which is why there is no banner to dismiss. It does not use the browser's local storage either: close the tab and nothing is left behind.
- No tracking
- No Google Analytics or anything like it, no pixels, no advertising, no embedded social networks. Even the typefaces are served from here, so opening a page does not contact a font provider.
- No geolocation
- DoveBus never asks the browser for your position. You will not see the permission prompt, because the feature is simply not used: the map opens on Tuscany and you are the one who moves it.
DoveBus shows where the vehicles are, not where people are. It does not know who is on board a bus, it has no way of knowing, and it cannot be used to follow anyone.
What leaves your browser anyway.
A web page does not load out of nothing. These are all the connections your browser opens while you use DoveBus, and what the other end sees.
The requests to the DoveBus server
When you search for a line or a connection, the server receives what you asked for: the line number or the two towns, the day and the time window. When you move the map it receives the rectangle of Tuscany you are looking at, so that it does not have to send you the vehicles of the whole region. It also receives, as any server does, your IP address: it is the address it has to reply to.
What the server keeps of all that
It keeps no log of ordinary requests: a search that worked leaves no trace. It does count how many requests arrive from each IP address within a minute, to stop anyone hammering it, and that count lives in memory and disappears with the minute. If a request causes a server error, the error is written to the technical logs with the address of the request — which contains the search terms, not the IP.
The map tiles
The cartographic background is served by OpenFreeMap (with CARTO as a fallback), which are outside providers. To deliver the images they see your IP address and which tiles you ask for — indirectly, which part of Tuscany you are looking at. It is the only third-party connection the site opens, and it happens only on the map: the text pages you are reading now do not.
Who hosts the pages
The static pages are served by a hosting provider, which to deliver them handles your IP address and browser type and records them in its own technical logs, under its own policies. It is the bare minimum for a page to reach its destination, and it is true of any website.
Your data, and your rights.
An IP address is personal data, so we do not say that DoveBus “processes no personal data”: that would be convenient and untrue. We say something more precise and more useful. We keep nothing that would allow anyone to reconstruct what you searched for or where you have been. There is no archive to query, no profile to export and nothing to delete, because none of it is created in the first place.
No data is sold, handed on or used for profiling, and there is none to sell. The third-party connections are only the technical ones listed above.
